
In my last post I spoke about grace and how there is no way we can afford what Jesus offers us. There is nothing we can do to earn his love, hos salvation, his grace. There is something else though that I have been thinking about and it is this: we do not even deserve grace in the first place. There is nothing present in us that makes us worthy or deserving of his grace, BUT he offers it to us anyways. It is not out of some glimmer of hope that we will do better, but rather out of an expression of who he is. God's grace is extended to us because his character is one of loyal love and faithfulness. It is in who God is that we find ourselves recipients of his generous mercy.
I am finding lately that I want to be the beggar. The one who recognizes that I have nothing, and have no means of drawing myself out of my situation. The beggar who is then invited to the royal banquet, and given a seat among the honoured. I want to understand deep inside of my heart the depth of love that Jesus has for me, and so to gain a glimpse of the glory of the one who gives to me what I do not deserve. I pray that you will know this love too and that Jesus will help you grasp the amazing love he has for you.
Ephesians 3:16-19
"I pray that out of his glorious riches he may strengthen you with power through his Spirit in your inner being, so that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith. And I pray that you, being rooted and established in love, may have power, together with all the Lord’s holy people, to grasp how wide and long and high and deep is the love of Christ, and to know this love that surpasses knowledge—that you may be filled to the measure of all the fullness of God.":-
